The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector
initiative of the Government of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and
Sports, established in 1969. It provides structured opportunities for student
youth at the higher secondary level (Classes XI and XII), as well as those enrolled
in technical institutions, undergraduate, and postgraduate programmes across
colleges and universities in India, to actively participate in government-led
community service activities and programmes.
NSS aims at the overall development of the personality and character
of student youth through voluntary engagement in community service. As a
student?centred programme, it serves as a complement to formal education,
embodying the principle of “Education through Service". By fostering
social responsibility, discipline, and civic awareness, the NSS seeks to
nurture individuals who are not only academically proficient but also committed
to the welfare of society.
Year of Establishment: The NSS Unit of Don Bosco College, Byndihati was established in 2016.
Motto: The Motto of NSS is “NOT ME, BUT YOU”
Mission: NSS aims to inculcate social consciousness and a sense of
responsibility, discipline and dignity of labour among the youth.
Vision: To build the youth with the mind and spirit to serve society
and work for the social upliftment of our nation through Community Service.
